Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
30+ years in business, since 1983.
What is your primary product or service?
I specialize in cosmetic wood repair of scratches, dents, dings, and damage of all sorts so that it looks like it was never damaged WITHOUT having to do the typical strip, sand and refinish techniques often thought are required by those not skilled at what I do. I usually perform this work commercially for door companies, installers or contractors working on office spaces where "existing" doors or millwork need to be given a "facelift" without the need for major finish work as well as on furniture of all sorts that is either damaged in delivery or has just endured normal wear and tear. But I am also fully versed, equipped and knowledgeable as well in all aspects of total strip and refinishing as well. So I also do complete refinishing of furniture, but not phased a bit if any repair or special abilities are needed for which require bringing my other skills to bear on getting things looking perfect that my years of touchup experience afford me, where more conventional refinishers just don't have the "chops".
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I initially was involved with the woodworking end of things, building furniture and working in a cabinet shop in Colorado after which, after coming to CA got involved more in the finishing and repair end of things. So as a result I have a great "feel" and experience not only for the physical aspects of woodworking but now, for over 30 years, the finish end as well, i.e. color match, top coat, spot repair, etc., specializing primarily in the touchup / repair aspects where I can basically get rid of pretty much any kind of damage or wear to virtually any type of woodwork, even formica and other materials on occaision.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
I have specialized in the touch up / spot repair aspect of things which an art and skill that few have developed or are experienced in anywhere near the level that my over 30 years in this niche has afforded me. My website pretty much says it all at www.touchupspecialties.com where I have tons of before / after pictures.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
I am a sole proprietor, small business who does all the work myself personally.
Provide detailed directions to your location
3940 Prospect Ave. in Yorba Linda, CA. Unit D. located about 5 miles north of the 91 Fwy on Rose Dr. in Yorba Linda at Imperial Hwy.
What type of payments do you accept?
Cash, check, credit card.
Which areas do you service?
All areas of north and south Orange County, Riverside, Inland empire as well as Los Angeles. I also can go to San Diego depending upon the job.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
I am the owner / operator
What are your hours of operation?
Normal business hours, but I also work evenings and even nights of the particular job requires it, as is often the case for commercial jobs where it is required that the work be done "after hours".
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
"Wow! I can't even find where the spot is that you repaired!"
What is your favorite quote or Bible verse?
They that wait upon the Lord will renew their strength. They shall rise up with wings as eagles. They shall run and not be weary, shall walk and not faint." Isa. 40:31
