In 1952, the Flanigan family founded Harbor Rest Memorial Park, which is now Harbor Lawn-Mount Olive Memorial Park & Mortuary. Beautiful Mt. Olive Cemetery is a part of Harbor Lawn Memorial Park and was established to serve the Jewish communities of Orange County and Long Beach. Several temples have since dedicated their own areas in Mt. Olive. The theme of the cemetery is serenity: our tree-lined entrances create serenity as you pass through beautiful wrought-iron gates into the sacred grounds, a permanent haven for our departed loved ones. The serene beauty of Harbor Lawn’s gardens and trees are a tribute to the living and honor those who have gone before.
Harbor Lawn’s beautiful gardens and broad green lawns are framed by many varieties of majestic trees. They ensure a lasting beauty and reflect the continual care provided by Harbor Lawn. The Court of Devotion garden mausoleum is richly embellished with beautiful imported marble and statuary bronze, and was built in the 1950s. It is one of many courts in Harbor Lawn’s mausoleum complex.
The Veterans’ Memorial section is the scene of the annual Memorial Day observance. This section of the cemetery offers a perfect tribute to our nation’s honored dead. In 2008, the new Veterans’ Memorial was built thanks to the donations and hard work of the Costa Mesa community. The pathway from the Memorial to the United States flag is lined with individual inscribed bricks displaying names, dates and terms of endearment.
In 1978, the Harbor Lawn Mortuary was built on the grounds of the cemetery. That year Governor Ronald Reagan was the speaker at our Memorial Day service. Also that year, the Alcove of the Cross columbarium was completed. It is one of many areas for cremated remains within our memorial park. The newest addition to the grounds is the Alcove of Abraham, augmenting our dedication to the Jewish community in Orange County.
